Quilt Trunk Show, tips on 11/12 at TAG!

The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council is pleased to announce a special Quilt Trunk Show coming to The Arts Garage in mid-November.

Taking place on Saturday November 12 from 11am-1:30pm, the trunk show will feature the works of Marblehead quilter Diana Schenko, who will also host a discussion of tips and tricks in quilting and sewing for those who are interested.

Schenko, who owns Toft’s Ice Cream Parlor in Portage Township, began her quilting journey in 2016, after years of working as a cake decorator.

“The artistic aspect made it easy to transition (to quilting,)” she said. She estimates that she learned 90% of her skills from videos on YouTube.

Since then she’s made hundreds of quilts, many for charity.

She also transforms old quilts into something new. With a lot of hard work, she’s taken what she calls “ugly ducklings” and turned them into swans.

There’s a lot of interest in sewing, noting the uptick in sewing machine purchases in the early days of the pandemic, she said.

Schenko plans to share tips and tricks and hopes to meet other quilters in the area. Sewing is something almost anyone can do, and she’s eager to help bring new people into the fold.

The Arts Garage is located in the old city garage at 317 W. Perry Street in Port Clinton, OH.
